Eva Debra Debreceni participated in a performance at MAC/VAL, Vitry-sur-Seine for the European Heritage Days 16-17 September 2017.
Dimitri Mallet's Untitled (golden line) is conveying the idea that the ideal height of the vertical center of pieces of art should be positioned at eye level (152 cm).
Liz Santoro’s performance is a response to this convention; eye levels being different for each visitor, she argues we should reinterpret this unwritten rule according to our own body’s unique features.
The protocol titled Mass Over Volume can be easily followed and interpreted by anyone who makes an attempt at it. In short, it is a reconstitution of cubes of which each side equals the interpreter’s height. Thus, multiple performers are encouraged to build structures and patterns together in any way they can “step”: from lying through dancing to jumping, anything is possible.
The performance explores how each body (being) leaves interlocked traces behind throughout their presence (and past). The constructions emerging from within the framework of each performance are unique and imposing, just like the massive "buildings" they represent.
A building site with bodies interchanging positions, following a common principle. The patterns are not necessarily related to one and other, nevertheless, they are created together, what's more, they create something together.
